Listed Buildings: Designing Garage Doors Which Blend Seamlessly
08/05/2015 Chances are if you live in a listed property there is a good chance that it is historically or architecturally unique. The downside of course is that if you want to make changes to the appearance of the property, you are likely to become entangled in council planning restrictions. This was exactly the problem faced by a customer who wanted a door in keeping with the rest of their listed building. Initially we were approached by the architect for the project, enquiring if we would be able to assist with a one-off build for the owner of the property. We arranged a meeting and having discussed their requirements, came to the conclusion that there was no existing product on the market that meet their needs AND satisfy the local council. To overcome the problem we designed a set of garage doors that incorporated Henderson door tracks and running gear - something that met with the approval of the local planning department. With work able to begin on the construction of the garage, we fitted the wall and floor tracks before the floor was laid and returned once the building was completed to install the doors.
